Six Flags Great Adventure Ready to Celebrate 25 Years of Making an Impact with Komen CSNJ
Every fall, thousands of dedicated supporters of Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey make their way to Six Flags Great Adventure, the largest amusement park in New Jersey, for an inspiring day filled with hope and celebration. They come to the park to raise funds and awareness for Komen CSNJ, and honor loved ones affected by breast cancer, while enjoying the exciting environment of Six Flags Great Adventure.
This November marks 25 years of Komen CSNJ making an impact in our local communities, furthering our vision of a world without breast cancer. Our Affiliate began as a dedicated group organizing our very first Race for the Cure event in 1994, and seeing the needs of the community, Komen CSNJ was born in 2005.
Since this time, Komen CSNJ has granted nearly $15 million in community breast health programs in our 13-county service area, and has helped contribute to the more than $920 million invested globally in breast cancer research.
Relationships with businesses like Six Flags Great Adventure are key in helping us achieve these goals. Six Flags Great Adventure has been a dedicated partner of Komen CSNJ for years, hosting Race for the Cure and other fundraising events.
“Partnering with Susan G. Komen for the annual walk allows fundraisers, walkers, survivors, family and friends to walk, ride, eat and laugh together for a full day of thrills — something they can’t get anywhere else,” said Kaitlyn Pitts, director of public relations at Six Flags Great Adventure.
This year, Komen CSNJ moves forward from a rich history of “racing for a cure” to the MORE THAN PINK Walk, an event that involves, engages and drives a more personal connection to our mission and the people we serve in our communities.
For Komen CSNJ, pink is more than just a color; it stands for strength, hope and promise for a brighter tomorrow. The MORE THAN PINK Walk is an inclusive event meant to celebrate and honor those who have been touched by breast cancer, and inspire action to end this disease for good.
“The MORE THAN PINK Walk is an amazing opportunity to show that together we are dedicated to making an impact locally, helping those in need of breast cancer services, and advocating for research nationally,” said Suzanne Corson, executive director of Komen CSNJ.
Komen CSNJ supporters can grab discounted tickets to the park and save big on thrills; they can be purchased now by visiting sixflags.com/greatadventure and using the code PINK. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Komen CSNJ and our mission to end breast cancer forever!
Six Flags Great Adventure offers so much more than the perfect location for these special events. After the walk, participants can enjoy the park, taking advantage of the rides, games, food and festivities Six Flags Great Adventure has to offer.
“With world-class rides and endless opportunities for family fun, Six Flags Great Adventure is the perfect place for a morning fundraising event followed by a day of thrills,” said Pitts.
This year, the ninth annual Grape Adventure Wine and Food Festival takes place on the weekend of the walk, November 3 and 4, 2018. With a multitude of New Jersey wineries, an array of food options and local craft vendors, the event is the perfect way to spend the rest of your day at the park after an inspiring morning walking with your friends and family.
“We are proud to be the place that brings people together to celebrate survivorship, remember those who have been lost and hope for a future with prevention and a cure,” said Pitts.
