BD — Advancing the World of Health Through Community Involvement

BD, together with Bard (a company BD acquired several years ago), has been a corporate supporter of the Susan G. Komen New Jersey MORE THAN PINK Walk for the past 12 years — having raised over $200,000 for the affiliate’s efforts to fight breast cancer and save lives.
Adding even more profound meaning to these efforts, over the years, several BD colleagues have been diagnosed with breast cancer, with associates rallying around them to show their support by raising money to fight the disease, true to BD’s purpose of Advancing the world of health.
No matter where someone is in their breast cancer journey, this community rallies back!
Fostering a Connection with the Community
BD enables its associates to give back to the communities where they live and work, encouraging associates to join together to support charitable organizations and causes they care about and support.
During these unprecedented times, when associates can’t physically join together to give back, events like the 2020 Komen New Jersey Virtual MORE THAN PINK Walk on Sunday provide a great way to stay connected — to each other and a worthwhile cause — breast cancer awareness.
BD is supporting the Virtual Walk this year as the official Community Pillar Sponsor! Many BD associates are working remotely and unable to have a traditional, in-person team kickoff meeting. Instead, they hosted a virtual “lunch and learn” kickoff with associates and speakers from Komen New Jersey, along with a radiologist who spoke about the importance of screening for breast cancer.
BD employees will support the Walk additionally by taking pictures while participating and sharing on an intranet site.
Encouraging & Motivating Community Participation
BD offers a 1:1 match to all charitable donations U.S. associates make to eligible non-profit organizations, giving employees a great motivator in financial giving knowing their donations will make double the impact.
To further encourage volunteerism, BD also donates $500 to any eligible non-profit organization, in recognition for every 40 hours of volunteer service U.S. associates complete for that organization.
BD celebrates outstanding BD volunteers each year with its annual Henry P. Becton Volunteer Impact awards —with the company issuing financial grants to the non-profit organizations served by each year’s associate honorees.
Without companies like BD, actively engaged in inspiring its employees to give back to the community, the 2020 Komen New Jersey Virtual MORE THAN PINK Walk this Sunday, October 4 would not be possible! While we may not be able to walk side-by-side, we can come together virtually to share our stories, support one another, and raise money to save lives. It takes all of us working together to help those most in need!
